a ladder up to heaven.	天家與主相見
There lies beneath its shadow	我看見極灰暗面
but on the further side	潛藏十架蔭下
The darkness of an awful grave	無邊漆黑陰森可怕,
that gapes both deep and wide	深不見底墳墓
And there between us stands the cross	張開雙臂懸十架中,
two arms outstretched to save	救主看守覆庇 ("覆"讀"埠")
A watchman set to guard the way	信者得救永受護眷,
from that eternal grave.	不必進深淵裏
Upon that cross of Jesus	基督那被釘景象,
mine eye at times can see	常浮現心窩中
the very dying form of One	為我擔當鞭傷苦痛,
who suffered there for me;	身心完全呈奉
and from my stricken heart	終於醒覺盈淚滿眶,
with tears two wonders I confess:	滿心憂傷恨悔
the wonders of redeeming love	救主的愛偉大若此,
and my unworthiness.	深感我多不配
I take, O cross,	我快慰定居進住
thy shadow for my abiding place;	救主十架蔭下
I ask no other sunshine	尋找基督恩光傾照,
than the sunshine of his face;	方向再不偏差
content to let the world go by,	今生所有名利讚賞,
to know no gain nor loss,	這刻甘心盡棄
my sinful self my only shame,	決心改過放下舊我,
